Project: Yoker Riverfront , Glasgow

Client: Strathclyde Park Lane Developments Ltd

The Yoker Riverfront Development is a joint venture between Park Lane Developments and Strathclyde Homes. The site occupies the derelict land on the north bank of the river Clyde between Yoker and Clydebank and is adjacent to the ferry crossing over to Renfrew.

The site will be developed in two phases with the first phase on the site of the former Yoker Power Station currently under construction and phase two on the former Rothesay Dock railway marshalling yard to follow in 2008/9.

The brief required the comprehensive redevelopment of this strategic riverside development site to provide a range of housing types to suit all needs, but with an emphasis on affordable family accommodation in the form of townhouses and two storey terraced units. Also, the entrance to the site from Dumbarton Road should be open and welcoming and offer views and a connection through the site to the river in line with the current City Council Planning Policy.

Whilst bearing in mind the requirement to provide an element of smaller scale family accommodation, it was also important to develop an appropriate scale and massing to the river edge to reinforce the urban location.
