Project: Thomson's Yard, Dumbarton

Client: Turnberry Homes Ltd

The Thomson’s Yard site (former Denny’s Shipyard), occupies derelict land on the east bank of the River Leven. The redevelopment of the site for residential use by Turnberry Homes is part of the wider framework for the development of Dumbarton Waterfront and the site is strategically placed to strengthen the links between the Town Centre and the Castle, both visually and by the creation of a riverside walk / cycleway. This feature will link up with adjacent developments and will become a vibrant, active space, encouraging visitors to the area and local people to use the “esplanade” for recreational purposes. The interaction with the River Leven will reinforce the sense of local pride and history given the former use of the site as a shipyard.

The accommodation provides for 3 and 4 storey flats along the perimeter of the site respecting the scale of the adjacent tenement properties, with a range of family houses and townhouses behind. A tree lined pedestrian boulevard is flanked by apartment blocks rising in scale to 6 storeys at key locations on the waterfront.
