Project: South Carntyne masterplan - Glasgow
Client: Bellway Homes Ltd
ark were commissioned by Bellway Homes to prepare a masterplan and submit an Outline Planning Application for the 27 hectare former industrial, local authority housing and recreational site north of the Forge Shopping Centre in the east end of the city. An integrated approach was taken by the design team in dealing with the many constraints on the site, which included sloping topography, adjacent electricity transformer station, main railway line, flooding issues, existing culverts and the proposed EERR junction planned nearby.
The vision for the development at South Carntyne is to create a new and attractive neighbourhood for a long term sustainable future. The neighbourhood will have a distinct identity, with safe and pleasant well designed spaces between buildings. They will include areas equipped for play, path networks, a sustainable Urban Drainage System (SUDS) and wildlife corridor along the edge of the railway.
The Outline Consent was granted in 2007 and a Detailed Application followed on for the first phase which is presently on site.
